An intimate portrait of a Washington, D.C. public school, 180 Days: A Year Inside an American High School follows the day-to-day lives and stories of students, teachers, staff and parents at Washington Metropolitan High School. In 2010 almost half of all students missed 15 or more days of school, resulting in chronic absenteeism, a leading indicator of high dropout rates. This documentary, produced by Black Public Media, chronicles the lives of students like 13-year old Rufus McDowney who has been in and out of juvenile since he was 13 and 17-year old Raven Coston who is trying to get through school as she raises a young child and works part-time. Despite all these odds, a young and charismatic principal, Tanishia Williams Minor, is working diligently to insure that her seniors graduate and that the school's scores on standardized tests improve.
